December 2020 Challenges

The Connected Project by Berene Campbell of Happy Sew Lucky

Hey there Guild Peeps and Happy (early) Thanksgiving.

The Connected Project has definitely been a living project making changes as we go.

Knowing the end of the year brings lots of Christmas project timelines, we opted to just have everyone make their own link.  No making one piece and sharing with a team.

We do have 2 options for the project – paper piecing and traditional piecing.  If you decide the paper piecing option is to common/boring, you can go to the Happy Sew Lucky website, Berene Campbell gives multiple options to incorporate more design.

Please email a picture of your completed link block along with your name to activities@qgplano.org by Tuesday, December 8th to give us time to put together the reveal and “connection” for the December Zoom Guild Meeting.

Thank you for participating and we look forward to Connecting with you.

Folded Star Ornament – Make & Take

Our December meeting will have a little make & take. NO SEWING involved. Just 4 different fabrics 3″ X 14″. The only prep work is the pressing of the rectangles. Press them in half lengthwise creating a center fold. Open the fold then fold the raw edges to meet at the center. Then refold the center fold and press once more. You’ll end up with 4 strips with the raw edges neatly enclosed inside. Tweezers or a Bodkin will be handy to have.

The following link shows the steps so if you want to make it again you have it:

Our own Michael Davison has also filmed a tutorial for making folded star ornaments! You can check out the video on YouTube here: DIY No-Sew FOLDED FABRIC STAR ORNAMENT or watch it below!

The Pillow Project by Leigh Knox

2020 starts off with a guild exchange activity! Click on the link for the Jordan Fabrics Tempting Triangle Pillow Covers (I love their FREE patterns!).

The cover says “Makes 3” but we are only making 1, but hey, for you wild and crazy overachievers out there, if you want to make 3, GO FOR IT! I will just stand in awe.

On the instructions, you will see where I made some modifications but the instructions are really simple and easy.

One addition to the project: MAKE SURE YOU SIGN AND DATE YOUR PILLOW.

Bring your finished pillow to the March Guild meeting for the exchange.

Click here to go to the instructions.

Pillow Parade

Did you make a pillow for the quilt challenge? We want a picture of your pillow in its natural habitat! Email your picture to Caroline at webmaster@qgplano.org to be included in QGP’s very first online Pillow Parade!
