October 2022 – December 2022 Challenge

The Shades of Blue & White: Floating Point Star Block Challenge

Blue & White never goes out of style. Participate at whatever level you would like. This is an easy star block with floating points, made using shades of blue for the star bellies and points with shades of white for the background. You could make a small wall hanging or quilt on your own with your own blocks. Or you might like to exchange blocks with guildmates to make a larger project!

Bring your block(s) to the DECEMBER CHRISTMAS guild meeting if you would like to exchange. As many blocks as you bring, you will get to take home from the other participants.

The Floating Point Star pattern includes generous seam allowance so that you will square your blocks up and then still have floating points after you sew your ¼” seam, so if you’re a little big or shy on your ¼”, there is plenty of room to get accurate blocks. Shades of Blue & White means that your block background will be white, cream, tan or somewhere in between (low volume prints or something that is solid or reads solid). Your star centers and points should be a shade of blue – anything ranging from blue to teal to navy or even aqua.

Your constructed block should now be approx. 11” x 11”. You can swap it as is. The final step when you receive your swapped blocks (if you are swapping) is to trim them down to 10.5” x 10.5”. This size will still maintain your points without being chipped off in the seam allowance. The block will finish at 10” x 10” in whatever project you would like to use it in.

December 2021 – May 2022 Challenge

Community Service/Guild Activity Panel Challenge

Community Service and Guild Activities have joined together for a Panel Challenge. At the December 2021 meeting I gave out pre-printed panels and asked members to add to the panels to make a usable size top for community service. The tops are due by the May 2022 meeting, but may be turned in at any time. Please pin a piece of paper with your name, contact information, and size top to your entry. All entries received by the May 2022 meeting will be entered into a drawing. Community Service has panels you can use or you may also use a panel of your own. All tops turned in will be donated to Community Service. The idea of the challenge is to come up with a creative way to use a pre-printed panel and inspire others. We all have lots of panels in out stashes and we don’t know what to do with them! You may choose to quilt your top, but it is not required. Each guild member can enter 2 quilt tops into the challenge. It would be helpful if you would include strips of matching binding. We will show everyone’s entries at the May 2022 guild meeting.
