Quilters Guild of Plano
What You Need To Know

History of the Guild

The Quilters Guild of Plano was organized in the fall of 1982 by Ginny Kenney and Nancy Vencevich, former members of the Quilters Guild of Dallas. They met at a small group meeting and discovered they were both from Plano. At the time, the trip to Dallas for the meeting was more of an undertaking, so they decided to see if others in the Plano area were interested in meeting in each other’s homes. By advertising in the Plano Star Courier, they found enough interest to start the “Happy Hoopers.” By the end of the first year, they had enough members so that they could no longer meet in individual homes. In May of 1986, the group officially adopted the name Quilters Guild of Plano. In 1989 the Guild became incorporated as a 501(c)3 tax exempt educational organization.

We are a 501(c)3 organization.

The Guild is organized and operated exclusively for educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 or the corresponding provisions or provision of any subsequent United States revenue law.

The Quilters Guild of Plano exists to bring together people who share a love of quilts and quilting. Together we learn from national and local quilt teachers and speakers, and share our work with each other and the community. All levels of quilters are encouraged to join us, including beginners. Several quilts have been made over the years to celebrate landmarks of time we have been together.

The purpose of the guild as stated in the By-Laws is to:

  • preserve the heritage of quilting,
  • promote the knowledge and understanding of all aspects of quilting, and
  • provide opportunities for continuing education among those interested in the art of quilting.
