It’s officially SPRING! And with the change in the seasons, it’s time to do some spring-cleaning of your sewing room. Put a box or bag out for things that you don’t use, don’t know why you bought, don’t know if you’d ever use it, and get it ready to donate items to someone else who is going to love it! At the May meeting, we will have a Bones Table to place your items for your friends to pick up, take home and love!
All remains from the Bones Table will be donated to the Welman Project in Fort Worth that has an Educator Warehouse for teachers to get items for free and for other crafters to purchase. We are only taking quilting related items at this time. Check out thewelmanproject.org “Fill a classroom, not a landfill”.
Another place to share your stash is by donating 3” squares to the women in Honduras that make quilts and bags by hand as they are without any electrical power. Cotton fabric, pre-cut into squares fit nicely into a ziplock bag and will be sent to them via the One Common Thread giving women an opportunity to sell their items to earn an income. Check out onecommonthread.org “one hexagon at a time”.
Have you entered your quilts for the show? It’s open & ready–all on line. Measure your quilt, locate the pattern name, and take a photo and you’ll be ready to hit: Enter! You can enter your quilt in either the judged or the non-judged part. We want to see what you’ve made this year!
Have you heard? We are looking for a 5 great volunteers for the Nominating Committee that will be lead by Roxy Gross and having Donna Petrick as the board rep. Please raise your hand at the meeting to help get the 2025-2026 board positions filled. If you would like to know more about taking a board position, please get with the present VP to understand the requirements (and the fun!)
– Jeanne
COMMUNITY SERVICE

Thanks to all of you, we had another great month providing quilts to many in our community as well as those affected by fires in California and the hurricane in the Carolinas. Thank you all for the support and participation making it all happen!
Loving the warmer temperatures, today I moved my sewing machine and current project outside and stitched all afternoon. It was great being out in the sunshine enjoying the first signs of spring.
You are invited to Community Service Sew Day, always the second Tuesday of the month. We meet at the Plano Sewing Center from 10 till 2. Bring your Sewing machine and basic sewing supplies and we will bring the rest. It is a great time to sew with friends and contribute to those in need of a little kindness in our community.
Remember, this is the final month to collect for the PISD celebration in May. We collect items that are needed for new babies and new young moms and dads. Baby clothing newborn to 24 months and diapers are always in demand. These are young parents we are helping to get started and anything that can help them is welcome.
Why People Volunteer
- Because they care about a cause
- To share or use special skills
- To join friends and family who volunteer
- Because they are personally impacted by an organization
- To better fill their time
- It’s a good networking opportunity

QUILTS OF VALOR
Quilts of Valor is in need of tops. The targeted size is 60” by 80”. Pattern ideas are at qovf.org for more details. It is highly suggested you avoid using obvious flag fabric as some recipients find that disrespectful. Bring the finished top to any community service day or guild meeting. The guild will supply the backing and get it quilted. If you include binding, that’s appreciated. Please pin it to the top. Pin your name as the maker to the top for the label.

QUILT PLANO 2025
April is here and that means it’s time to start thinking about Volunteering at the Quilt Show! We’ve made it easy to sign up on the Quilt Plano website using SignUp Genius, which will send you reminders as we get closer to the Show date. So pop in there today and grab your spot!
At the completion of the volunteer shift, every volunteer will receive a special commemorative 2025 QP Show charm to add to their Quilters Guild of Plano volunteer bar. Those who volunteer for a total of 4 hours will receive a one-day admission ticket to the Show. Come join the fun!!
There are a few Volunteer t-shirts still available. Visit the Quilt Show table to purchase yours. While you’re there, grab some more raffle tickets! They would make great Easter basket stuffers!

Debbie Smith and Norma Bautista
Entries registration is open online at the Show website. Members may register up to 4 entries max and can do so with no charge until the May Guild meeting. So take advantage of that free Early Bird window. You don’t have to complete the quilt before you register it – just take a photo of the completed quilt top.
We have a few stacks of bookmarks that can be picked up at the April guild meeting to keep on hand while you’re out and about. Please help us get the word out about the Show and our programs for the year.
As always, we’re looking for folks who want to join the Quilt Plano committee. Chat with Laurie or Carol to share what you enjoy doing and we’ll connect you with the right team. You can always shadow this year and step into the role next year! All are welcome!!

Tammy Kinley and Laurie Lumston
One last request: At the April Guild Meeting, we are planning a special presentation to the former Quilt Plano Show Chairs, Co-Chairs, and Featured Quilters. We’re trying to fill in some gaps! Do you know who served as the Show Chair and/or Co-Chair for the Quilt Plano shows from 1991 – 2021? If so, please reach out to Laurie Lumston at laurie.lumston@gmail.com. 🙂 Thanks!
Cheers,
Laurie and Carol
GUILD ACTIVITIES

Happy Spring! Isn’t it lovely to be outside enjoying this beautiful weather?
We’re so excited for the upcoming April meeting when we’ll be seeing the Stained Glass quilts that our members have been working on over these past few months. It will be grand to see what everyone has completed.
It’s also time to think about registering our guild activities quilts into the Special Exhibit at the quilt show. Please plan on participating.
In May we will hold a fat quarter raffle! If you would like to participate then please bring in 1 or 2 fat quarters and we will enter you into a special raffle where you can win a fat quarter bundle. We are asking for spring prints or spring tonal fat quarters. Plan on joining in on the fun!
See y’all at the meeting! Chris & Anna Marie
EDUCATION

Debbie Burns
Last month at the Education table, Debbie showed us how to sort and process our scraps, and how to efficiently cut scraps into usable pre-cuts. Then how to store your new organized fabric stash.
Now that you have processed all of your scraps into usable pre-cut sizes, at the April meeting we will share some great ideas on how to use your scrap fabric stash to create some beautiful quilts without spending more money.

PROGRAMS AND WORKSHOPS

April 10th Guild Meeting
Rosie deLeon-McCrady: Redwork Legacy
April 12th Workshop
Rosie deLeon-McCrady: Redwork Embroidery by Machine
Alex Andersen. Wow! How fun to hear stories from her start and see how far she has come.Just goes to show, if you have a Passion for something, and keep working hard at it, you never know what you can accomplish. Now which one of us hasn’t had that experience after starting a quilt that turned out a bit more complicated than anticipated! Can I get a YES!
April’s speaker is our very own Rosie deLeon-McCrady of Redwork Plus for a Thursday lecture on Redwork’s Legacy. Saturday’s workshop on how to do Redwork on your domestic machine is almost full, but we are happy to start a waitlist when it fills up. Remember, you don’t need a fancy machine, just look for the “triple stitch” (forward/backward/forward in the same holes) on your regular sewing machine.
Our next workshop will be in June with nationally known quilter, Christa Watson. How often have you wished you could quilt your own quilts on your domestic machine? Well she’s a PRO! Walking Foot and Free-motion workshops are filling fast, so don’t wait if you are interested. Website signup is open if you don’t want to risk waiting until the April Guild Meeting. See you there!
