Introduction to Quilt Judging Seminar
Title: Introduction to Quilt Judging Seminar
Are you a quiltmaker interested in elevating your knowledge? Do you want to understand what makes a winning quilt? Are you a quilt professional? Are you interested in perhaps becoming a Certified Judge? Or maybe you are going to run your guild’s judging room. If so, then this is the seminar for you. Whatever your purpose, this class will give you a thorough foundation in all aspects of quilt judging including evaluating construction and design, the business side of judging, terminology, and judging room set-up. Your instructor for this class, Nancy Fuka, has judged thousands of quilts in local, state, regional, and international shows throughout the United States. She is an NACQJ Certified Judge, an NACQJ Qualified Instructor, and is also qualified to judge Master Quilts. In this class, we will explore the world of judging through class discussion and participation, handouts, and mock judging exercises. While we will discuss the certification requirements of the NACQJ, this class does not certify students and this class is not a prerequisite for certification. Handouts will include resource recommendations, a glossary of art and design terms with definitions, sample contracts and invoices, and much more.
Participants will be welcome to attend the Quilt Plano Preview Party, Thursday, August 10, 2023, 7 pm.

Students should bring 1-3 quilts to use as subjects in mock judging. For this mock judging, we prefer that you bring your quilts with definite issues rather than your best quilts. Everyone recognizes excellence. It’s much harder to comment on flaws. Due to space limitations, smaller quilts are better, but we won’t turn away large quilts.
