Benefits of Membership
Monthly Meetings
Guild meetings are held on the 2nd Thursday of each month. Meetings are preceded by an informal social time, a short business meeting with committee updates, and Show and Tell of quilts. The program with the speaker follows. Programs are always free for members.
**A $5 charge will be assessed to non-members when we host a national speaker.
Guild Activities
In addition to monthly activities such as Guild Challenge and Show & Tell, the Guild sponsors several Day Retreats in town throughout the year.
Workshops
The Guild offers monthly workshops (excluding May, August and December) to its members and the general public on the Friday and/or Saturday following the presentation on Thursday night.
These workshops include hands-on techniques and are an opportunity to work with and learn from internationally recognized quilt designers, authors, and teachers.
Community Service
One of the most rewarding benefits of membership is the opportunity as a volunteer to make quilts for organizations in the Plano area. Quilts of various sizes are made either from your own stash or from kits pre-cut and ready to take home and sew.
Tops can be taken home to quilt and/or to bind and then return when completed. Along with the many charities that we support, we also do small cuddle quilts for Children’s Hospital and we save our scraps for pet beds at the local shelter.
Education
The Quilters Guild of Plano is proud to have within its membership talented quilters, from beginner to advanced, who generously volunteer to serve the Plano community providing educational lectures, workshops, demonstrations, etc.
Any member interested in volunteering for education events, as they arise, is welcome.
Friendship Groups
Friendship groups (also known as small groups are truly the “heart” of the guild. These groups range from 2 to 10 people, who generally meet at a member’s home to share fellowship and a love of quilting. Anyone can start a new group and can belong to as many as energy and commitment allow.
Small groups are a great way to get to know a small group of quilters and to share ideas. Groups help you grow by exposing you to new techniques or tools. Many members travel together to quilt shows or fabric shops!!!
Member Directory
A member directory with photos listing the guild’s membership is available only to members of the guild.
Newsletter
The Guild publishes a monthly newsletter containing minutes of the previous month’s meeting and information on up-coming events.
Quilt Retreat
We have an annual Retreat every February. You can spend 4 days quilting, eating, laughing, relaxing, enjoying the fellowship of other quilters, and just being away from home.
Website
The Guild’s website has a wealth of historical information, photos, programs, and workshop information, as well as links to numerous quilt shops and quilt related sites.
Quilt Plano Show
The Quilters Guild of Plano hosts an annual quilt show. Our first show was held in 1991 with a show every August held at the Plano Event Center on Friday and Saturday. The Plano Event Center is located at 2000 East Spring Creek Parkway in Plano.
Quilt Plano houses over 300 quilts including judged quilts and various special exhibits, over 50 vendors, and a full range of Skill Demonstrations. This is a wonderful opportunity for membership involvement.
View our Volunteer page or contact our show chair at showchair@qgplano.org to see how you can participate.
Raffle Quilt
The Quilt Plano Raffle Quilt is awarded on Saturday afternoon of Quilt Plano each year. This special quilt is pieced and quilted by Guild Members, and tickets can only be purchased through our members.
We ask all our members to sell at least one packet (24 tickets) to help us make this fundraiser a great success.
Mini-Quilt Auction
The Mini Quilt Auction is another fundraiser that helps fund our Quilt activities. During Quilt Plano, we have a Silent Auction selling mini quilts donated by our membership. Various designs of mini quilts are made by members and can be turned in at our monthly Guild meetings – keep your eyes open for our “Minis” who can assist you with questions.
Because of these fundraisers we can provide special programming and workshops to our membership as well as help fund the many community service projects to our community. Membership involvement is not only needed for our Guild’s success, but is a great way for you to have fun and make new friends.
The QGP Board and the Quilt Show Committee are great ways to get involved and to support the guild.
