Happy New Year!  The new board is excited to build upon the existing solid foundation and offer new energy and ideas.

Before we turn our thoughts to the year ahead with a new board, let’s recount a few of the accomplishments of the past year:

  • A fabulous year of programs and workshops, highlighted by Alex Anderson
  • Record membership enjoying challenges and friendship
  • An amazing number of quilts sent into the community to support those facing hurdles in life
  • A much-needed update to the web site technology and in turn, functionality
  •  Thankfully, a successful quilt show to finance the next year.

The guild is built upon a volunteer workforce.  Between the Board, sub- committees, retreat, and the show committee there are over 100 volunteer slots each year.  With almost 400 members, that is over 25% of the guild actively involved, plus all the show volunteers.   Many of the roles require only a small time commitment or are seasonal.

Please consider raising your hand to help.  At this point, the newsletter editor, and Co-VP of Activities, are open core roles.

As the old saying goes, life is all about time and money.  In addition to time, the guild runs on money.  The growth in community service outreach pushed the guild toward more storage space.  The cost of batting has sky-rocketed in the last few years.  Speaker fees are locked in, but speaker travel costs are projected to triple as air fares and hotel rates rise.  We face a budget deficit for the coming year.  Expect to see some changes as we work toward a budget neutral position for the long run.  Invite your friends to join the guild, sign up for the fabulous workshops, and spread the word about the show next summer.  Those are three avenues to increase revenue.

We look forward to another wonderful year of learning, sharing and friendship.

🎉Time to Celebrate!!  I can hear the song playing in my head- Cel-A-brat-ion, Come On…! 🎉

Let’s celebrate our 2025 Quilt Show!!

Where do we start~

From the fabulous “Special Exhibits” to the Mini quilt action, to the raffle quilt and over 250 quilts on display, to the amazing Vendors and Sponsors, to children’ s scavenger hunts, it was a show to remember! In fact, some vendors told us: “this was the best sales day that we have had” I also heard that many visitors to our show “loved it”.

We presented the event center with a very special quilt, which now hangs in their main office, thanks to one of the vendors who also donated the hanging rack!!  City councilman Rick Horne selected the Mayor’s choice. Councilman Horne was so impressed with our quilts- He said each one was a “work of ART”!! He went on to say- “Oh, I wish I had come earlier- I thought there would be like 12 quilts, there are so many beautiful quilts, it’s hard to pick just one!” This year’s show was amazing (so sorry if you missed it).

🌟As we look in the rearview mirror, Laurie and I are so proud of what we ALL accomplished TOGETHER!!

While I will be forever grateful for the love, support and guidance from Laurie, and her never ending friendship, It is my turn to step into the role as the 2026 Quilt Plano Show Chair. I am humbled to take on this role and grateful to all the leaders that came before me. I will continue to lean on them as we continue to grow.

Want to be part of the magic? Reach out to them and join the QP26 team — planning starts NOW!

🧵BUT WAIT THERE IS MORE~

  • Looking forward to the 2026 Quilt Show- Mark your calendars- August 14-15, 2026!
  • We again have some exciting things happening behind the scenes-
  • I am proud to announce that Adrienne Poppe has agreed to be my Co-Chair for the 26 and 27 quilt shows.
  • Be looking for more details on a very Special Category- that will only happen once, at the 2026 show!! You won’t want to miss it!!

🏆 Our 2026 Raffle quilt is amazing, it has won 2 ribbons!! Tickets will go on sale soon.

We have a few committee spots open, so please see me and I can help you get plugged in. ShowChair@QGPlano.org

🤩 One last thing- don’t forget to turn in your volunteer hours to Donna Petrick so that you can get a 2025 bar to hang your charm on!

A Special Thank You!

Jeanne Vogel

Oh my! What a great surprise to receive a quilt made by Linda Chappell and quilted by Beth Swiatek. This is truly a masterpiece I will treasure and remember my time spent being the president of QGP. Thank you, Thank you! We have had great board members, a few changes in positions, but one of my goals was to have over 300 members, and we made it to 320; wanted 100 members to attend the meeting in person, and we made it to 110; got name tags to identify the board members, wanted all members to be pictured in the directory–missing only 7; wanted to be open about the work done by the guild members and record it in print; access to documents that were retrieval and we moved from DropBox to Google Docs (thanks to Carol Truscott’s inservice and support) the new website (thank you Kris O’Connor), moved funds into CD’s to make our money make money, had education and support from an attorney; learned about insurance, finance–banking, quilt show behind the scenes, storage units, what funds are needed to pay for the different services we use and the strengths of the members behind the scenes.

Sadly we lost two members that I personally knew both from working on the quilt show and in a small sewing group but got to help with their memorials at the show. We are continuing to share items from their quilting room.

Thank you again for making great memories together.

Jeanne Vogel, Past President

PROGRAMS AND WORKSHOPS

And that’s a Wrap!  It’s been a great couple years learning lots and meeting new people.  Hopefully you have learned some things from the Programs and Workshops we have brought to QGP.  Hopefully you met a few new friends, especially at the September meeting!  Many thanks to Julie Schaefer, Rose Davis, Cynthia Weisz, Dolores Williams, and Virginia Braley for having a Conversation with us and sharing some of their stories and treasures.

HUGE thanks to our Queen Bee Jeanne Vogel for a fantastic two years keeping our guild buzzing in the right direction!  Jeanne has shared an immense amount of her time and talent with us, and we hope she thought all her parting gifts were beeeeautiful.  You are appreciated, Jeanne!

One last newsletter plug for our October workshop with Dee Bushrod from Pixel Quilts. Hear about her Passion for Pixels during the October Thursday night lecture, then try her technique in the Friday workshop. Only one workshop and only a few spots left, so don’t wait to sign up! For ease of prep Dee offers a kit (reserve at signup) so you don’t need to chase down all the different fabrics.  If you fall in love with the method, you can even expand the Cherry Blossom Wall Hanging into a larger quilt.

Come to November’s Guild Meeting and hear Jackie Brown’s story.  Yes, THE Jackie Brown that helps Linda Neal produce all those Best of Show quilts!   And with that, we turn Programs over to your new CoVPs, Kim Iverson and Andrea McMahan; they are ready to keep things rolling for you!  See you at the guild meeting!

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Well, well–I’m back! Hard to believe that I wore this hat back in 2000–2002. Wow–how things have changed. We now have inherited big shoes to fill as Valerie and Debbie have set the bar high with their goal of giving 600 quilts this past year. Think Susie and I can continue to handle this volume? Well, we’re off to see.

We’ve reviewed the Information Form that was filled out at the September meeting and found names of new and older members to help with the making, quilting, binding and delivery of quilts to the numerous organizations that we support in Collin County and beyond! Thank you for letting us know the part you are willing to work on. We’ll try to give you a little information about one of the places our quilts are donated each month. And if you know of a need please let us know. Susie is one of the hardest workers and if you want something done, she is it!

Please go to our website/activities/community service and down to Organizations Supported by Our Guild to see the list of where our donations are given.

Come sew with us, pick up and drop off kits/quilts/bindings/pillowcases at the meeting or at the Sit & Sew Day on Oct. 14.

Visit our table at the meeting and get to know some of our helpers at the meeting–thanks to Margaret Lakie, Carol Esch and Linda Benson for helping in September.

The public is invited to our next presentation at the Flags of Honor on Saturday, November 15th.
