This month’s meeting will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
The meeting starts at 6:30pm.
We will be meeting in person at Plano Event Center, 2000 E. Spring Creek Pkwy, Plano, TX.
The purpose of the Quilters Guild of Plano is to unite individuals who have a passion for quilts and the art of quilting.

The Show is around the corner. Please encourage your friends and neighbors to come. Don’t forget to volunteer if you haven’t signed up yet. The LINK to Volunteer and buy advance tickets is on the website, follow the Quilt Show 2026 link.
The website is back! And, the directory is back! Some of the data did vanish during the transition. Please log in at the top right and check your info under My Account. Your user name and password did not change. You can always use the “Forgot” button. Please add any missing, including a recent picture.

Committees:
Many of these roles have multiple positions, especially in community service, and some roles are filled. This is a brief overview to give you an idea of the responsibilities of each position. You can negotiate the responsibilities with the appropriate VP.
Membership
- Bee Keeper: Coordinates forming new groups. Matches groups with those looking to affiliate with a group.
- Hospitality/Welcome: Welcomes attendees to the meeting. Helps guests and new members navigate the meeting. Helps with any new member events.
- Door Prizes: Gather door prizes from local quilt shops, as needed.
- E-Mail list: Keep email list current for newsletter and special announcements.
Activities
- Annual Retreat. Help organize and host the annual multi-day retreat.
- Challenges. Create, communicate, and coordinate the final outcome (prizes, drawing, etc.) of guild challenges. We aim to offer 3-4 challenges a year.
Community Service
- Delivery. Deliver completed quilts to the approved charitable organizations.
- Community Sew Day. Prep kits and host community sew days.
- Top to Finish. Prep for the long armer. Cut batting, match/construct backing and binding.
Education
- Meeting Demos. Coordinate and recruit presenters for the monthly guild meetings.
- New Quilter Classes. Coordinate and recruit presenters for quarterly educational sessions.
Media
- Meeting Manager. Run the AV equipment for the in-person and Zoom meeting participants.
- Web Site Content. Police the web site and make updates on a timely basis.
- Historian/Photographer. Photograph guild meetings and the Show. Share content.
Programs
- Workshop assistant. Transport speaker to and from the workshop. Facilitate set-up/take down and lunch. Check in attendees.
- Speaker liaison. Assist transporting speakers, ensuring they have all needed to present at meetings/workshops, taking to dinner, if needed.
Quilt Show
- Many positions. Visit with the Show Chair to find a good fit!

- Newsletter. Coordinate articles for the monthly newsletter. Format and add photos. Prepare for auto send.

GUILD ACTIVITIES – Donna Allenbaugh & Sally Pitre
Baggage Claim Challenge – Your Creative Journey Begins!
Did you pick up your Baggage Claim Challenge at the July meeting? Where will your quilt be transporting you? Be sure to keep the project in mind as you shop the Show Vendors! Turn-in date is the October meeting.

EDUCATION – Deanna Tucker
At the July meeting, Pam Walsh demonstrated Quilt Facings. Facings are a great alternative to traditionally binding quilts or wall hangings. They are also called Faced Bindings or Invisible Bindings. Facings are more frequently used in modern quilts or wall hangings where no visible binding or edging is wanted to frame the quilt. Thanks, Pam, for stretching our quilting knowledge!

At the September 9th guild meeting, Stacey will demonstrate the new Quilters Guild of Plano website and give some tips on how to effectively use it.

PROGRAMS AND WORKSHOPS – Kim Iverson
Thank you all for joining us in July as we heard from Frances Arnold as she walked us through how to take our favorite pictures off the SIM card and onto our quilts. She had some great ideas and suggestions that made me look at designing quilts in a different way.
In August we will all turn our attention to the quilt show. Please plan to join us August 14th and 15th. The show committee has worked hard to put together an incredible show and we are all excited to do our part to bring the magic to life!
In September, we are welcoming representatives from the Texas Quilt Museum as they present a trunk show full of history and stories. This is a great opportunity to experience a piece of the museum without having to leave our neighborhood!
Then, as we close out the current year’s programs in October, Diane Harris will be in town to talk about scrap quilting at the meeting, and then will host our last two workshops of the year. Her Friday workshop is almost sold out, so don’t delay if you’re thinking about signing up! If you try to sign up and get a message that the class is full, email programs@qgplano.org and I’ll see if I can work some magic and get you in. Saturday’s workshop has room, so if you want to practice and perfect your flying geese in a small group setting, this is your chance!

At the August guild meeting with the Quilt Show we will not be collecting or giving out quilts. We have donation bins available for your convenience.

Our guild members continued to spread warmth and kindness throughout the community this month. In July, we donated 40 quilts and pillowcases to the Senior Living Center in Rockwall. Because they also serve other facilities, our quilts are shared with residents in many different towns.
One of the sweetest surprises this month was receiving a heartfelt thank-you letter from a 99-year-old woman in Paris, Texas, who received one of our quilts. Her note was a touching reminder that every quilt we make is more than fabric and thread — it is a gift of comfort, love, and caring.
We also donated 15 lap-sized quilts with pillowcases to BedStart, helping provide comfort to those getting a new start.
A special thank you goes to Val Schlake and Sue McCormick for taking the time to deliver these donations.
We were also happy to share some of our donated fabric and patterns with the Allen Quilt Guild.
Our “cutting-up party” was a success. Members worked together to sort and cut leftover fabric into useful sizes for quilt kits. It’s amazing to see how those bits and pieces can become beautiful quilts that will warm someone else in the future.
Thank you to everyone who stitches, cuts, donates, delivers, and supports our Community Service projects. Every quilt tells someone they are remembered, cared for, and loved.
