Social time starts at 6:15pm and the meeting starts at 7:00pm.
We will be meeting in person at Hunter’s Glen Baptist Church, 4001 Custer Road, Plano, TX, and via Zoom.

The purpose of the Quilters Guild of Plano is to unite individuals who have a passion for quilts and the art of quilting.
LETTER FROM GUILD PRESIDENT – Carolyn Cosgriff
You’ll be awestruck at the variety of quilts in Quilt Plano 2026, especially in the America 250 category, and the building will be packed. The layout was a puzzle that took a huge amount of work, especially from the registration team of Tisha Harms and Jenny Hilton.
Celebrate! The new guild website was converted last weekend and should now be readable on phones. Stacey Procter has put an immense amount of effort into managing this project and has done a heroic job. Going into the project, we expected some hiccups. The membership component has been challenging. The log-in and the member directory are not functioning yet. We are working on a solution and will keep you updated. If you come across something on the website you think isn’t quite right or isn’t the latest info, please drop an email to media@qgplano.org.
You can sign up to volunteer at the show and buy tickets without logging in! You’ve heard this many times, Show week requires a lot of volunteers. Please scroll to the Show section of this newsletter and look for the links to volunteer. Or, go to QGPlano.org and click on the show icon on the top right.
While you are thinking about volunteering, the Show is but one aspect of the guild. Below you’ll find the 2026-27 board nominees. A couple of slots remain open as of this writing. And, please review the list of committees. These are also critical roles. Contact myself or the respective Board position to offer your time and talent.
We are continuing to try to improve the Zoom experience. We’ve purchased a new microphone that should cover both the room and zoom so speakers no longer need to juggle two microphones. Hopefully, that will be operating for the July meeting. Note that meeting managers is a position we have never ceased recruiting. It demands two individuals per meeting. Advanced technology knowledge is not required.
The annual retreat is also being revisited. We’ve heard the complaints specifically about the rooms at Tanglewood. Donna Allenbaugh is applying her business experience and skills to securing the best dates, prices, and accommodations possible.
Finish up your 12″ finished block for the summer challenge and bring it to the July meeting. Learn from Frances Arnold methods and tricks to add photos to your quilts. And, read the rest of the newsletter!

Committees:
Many of these roles have multiple positions, especially in community service, and some roles have been filled. This is a brief overview to give you an idea of the responsibilities of each position. You can negotiate the responsibilities with the appropriate VP.
Membership
- Bee Keeper. Coordinates forming new groups. Matches groups with those looking to affiliate with a group.
- Hospitality/Welcome. Welcomes attendees to the meeting. Helps guests and new members navigate the meeting. Helps with any new member events.
- Sunshine and Shadows. Sends cards to members/families as needed.
- Door Prizes. Gather door prizes from local quilt shops, as needed.
- E-Mail list. Keep email list current for newsletter and special announcements.
Activities
- Annual Retreat. Help organize and host the annual multi-day retreat.
- Challenges. Create, communicate, and coordinate the final outcome (prizes, drawing, etc.) of guild challenges. We aim to offer 3-4 challenges a year.
Community Service
- Delivery. Deliver completed quilts to the approved charitable organizations.
- Donations. Coordinate with those donating fabric to the guild. Sort and organize.
- Community Sew Day. Prep kits and host community sew days.
- Top to Finish. Prep for the long armer. Cut batting, match/construct backing and binding.
Education
- Meeting Demos. Coordinate and recruit presenters for the monthly guild meetings.
- New Quilter Classes. Coordinate and recruit presenters for quarterly educational sessions.
Media
- Meeting Manager. Run the AV equipment for the in-person and Zoom meeting participants.
- Web Site Content. Police the web site and make updates on a timely basis.
- Historian/Photographer. Photograph guild meetings and the Show. Share content.
Programs
- Workshop assistant. Transport speaker to and from the workshop. Facilitate set-up/take down and lunch. Check in attendees.
- Speaker liaison. Assist transporting speakers, ensuring they have all needed to present at meetings/workshops, taking to dinner, if needed.
Quilt Show
- Many positions. Visit with the Show Chair to find a good fit!

- Newsletter. Coordinate articles for the monthly newsletter. Format and add photos. Prepare for auto send.

BEGINNER QUILTER MENTORING
If you are new to quilting and would like to spend some time learning the basics, please join Linda Chappell and Donna Petrick in a new venture to mentor beginning quilters. You will get acquainted with terms and gain the confidence to join in with other groups or the guild workshops. We have a form we are asking you to complete to see the times everyone will be available and what you are interested in learning.

WOW!!!
Quilt entries have closed and the layout of the quilts has been finished. All I can say is WOW, I can’t wait for you to see this year’s show!! We have worked hard behind the scenes to make this show one that you will remember!!
What to expect at the show – Nothing to be the same
Celebrate America 250!!!
- East entrance will have the Celebrate America 250 quilts, DAR, a photo booth and representatives from DAR (and of course admissions to the show)
- As you exit the America 250 room, you will find all things Plano Quilt Guild, including a special quilt by Linda Sullivan from one of our workshops!! Sign up for demos (check out our list of demos on our website), join our Plano Guild, learn about upcoming programs and more — view demos at the show here
- As you continue down the hall, you will find our amazing Mini Quilt Auction! Preview the 2026 mini quilts here so you are ready to bid or purchase at the “Buy Now” price at Preview Night!!
- Next you will come to Sponsors and Vendors. This year we have over 50 vendors!! Look in each booth for special door prize opportunities!!
- Quilts, quilts and more quilts — the West hallway is nothing but exquisite quilts!!
- Be sure to look at the end of the West hallway where the Main hallway meets up with the West hallway — there you will find a special exhibit by the “Hoop It Up Girls.”
- Collinwood will host Vendors, the Raffle Quilt, Featured Quilter, Best of Show, Information, Photo Booth and Quilts!!
- Wyndhaven will host Quilts of Valor, Vendors, Sponsors and the beautiful Art Quilters exhibit!!
- The Main hallway will host even more Vendors and Sponsors!!
This will be a show to remember!!
At the July Guild meeting you can:

Calling All Organizers – Join the Quilt Retreat Committee!
Are you ready to add even more fun and excitement to our retreat? We’re looking for two more volunteers to join the Quilt Retreat Committee! Help us create a memorable experience by assisting with:
- Organizing group stretching activities & games
- Preparing name tags and fun treats / candy
- Reviewing applications and coordinating 4–5 demo hosts
- Gathering and transporting retreat supplies (irons, big boards, cutting mats, table signs, and more)
We’ll also be announcing the Save the Date at the July meeting!

EDUCATION – Debbie Burns and Deanna Tucker
At the June meeting, Dolores Williams demonstrated how to do Precision Piecing. Tips for a perfect quarter inch seam include using the proper foot and pinning properly. This demo was a wealth of information for quilters of all levels. Thanks, Dolores!
At the July 9th guild meeting, Pam Walsh will demonstrate Quilt Facings. Facings, also called Invisible Bindings, are another way to finish a quilt instead of traditional bindings.

June Program Highlights
What a great night we had with Allie McCathren as she inspired us to paint with fabric and design with some improv! Saturday’s workshop was a great day as we all created our own seaglass scapes.
In July we look forward to Frances Arnold via Zoom as she teaches us how to prepare photos for fabulous memory quilts.
A 2027 Program Preview will be unveiled at the Quilt Show! We hope everyone is as excited as we are for what’s coming in 2027.

July: Zoom lecture with Frances Arnold. She will share the computer methods needed to prepare photos and print onto fabric for spectacular Memory Quilts.
September: In-person presentation of gorgeous masterpieces that have graced the Texas Quilt Museum, complete with history and beautiful stories. You don’t want to miss this one!
October: Diane Harris presenting StarQuar Scrap Quilts and Fowl Play. Workshop details coming soon!

COMMUNITY SERVICE – Jeanne Vogel and Susie Luttrell
What a Milestone!
For the first time ever, every quilt sandwich was off our shelves and out being quilted! More than 125 quilts are currently in the hands of our talented quilters and binders — a remarkable accomplishment and a testament to the dedication and hard work of our volunteers.
As these quilts begin returning, we will need plenty of helping hands for the next step: binding. Our community service quilts bring comfort, warmth, and encouragement to so many, and binding is the final step in preparing them for donation.
Thank you to everyone who has helped make this milestone possible. Watch for upcoming opportunities to join our binding efforts — we’ll need all hands on deck as these beautiful quilts come home!
On June 22, a wonderful team of volunteers gathered to cut batting for quilt tops and backings, preparing another group of quilts to be sent out for quilting. Special thanks to Tom DeMoss of Ready, Set, Quilt for generously providing the use of his studio, and to Nancy Simpson, Lorelle Chambers, and Cari Dooley who spent the day sewing backings together and packaging them with batting so they could be distributed to our quilters. We now have seven bins of sandwiched quilts to be long-armed.
Val Schlake recently delivered 30 quilts, along with matching pillowcases, to Lakeshore Senior Living, a new organization for us to donate to which serves elderly residents in Rockwall. An additional 25 quilts are scheduled for delivery later this month.
Sue McCormick delivered 15 youth quilts to Children’s Hospital Plano.
These accomplishments reflect the generosity, teamwork, and dedication that make our guild’s community service program such a success. Thank you to everyone who contributes their time and talents to this important work.
