This month’s meeting will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
Social time starts at 6:15pm and the meeting starts at 7:00pm.
We will be meeting in person at Hunter’s Glen Baptist Church, 4001 Custer Road, Plano, TX, and via Zoom.

The purpose of the Quilters Guild of Plano is to unite individuals who have a passion for quilts and the art of quilting.
LETTER FROM GUILD PRESIDENT – Carolyn Cosgriff
June 11th is the firm deadline for quilt show entries, so please submit yours by June 10th or sooner if possible. We always appreciate volunteers who step in to help during the show, but with hundreds of shifts to fill, signing up in advance helps everything run more smoothly. You can find the volunteer link in the Show section of this newsletter. The program printing schedule sets many of our deadlines; this is the final call for PDF ad artwork.
The show is still two months away. There is much fun to be had in the meantime! Get ready for floral fat quarter bingo! You get as many cards as the number of floral fat quarters you bring. To say the workshop team is anxious to see what you’ve produced would be an understatement. Even if the binding isn’t done — ok, even if it’s not quilted, bring your workshop projects for Show & Tell. Inquiring minds want to know!
Do you remember Dolores Williams’ owl? The eye has something like 30 pieces. Who better to coach on precision piecing at the education table? Drop by and get some pointers from the pro. We have some amazing quilters in our guild. They generously share their knowledge. It’s a priceless membership benefit.
Speaking of pros — the workshop is full. Make sure you come to the June meeting and hear Allie McCathren address on raw edge applique. She paints with fabric.
We come to guild meetings for fun and friendship. That doesn’t mean we overlook the many in our community that are struggling. Thanks to the dozens of members that piece, cut binding and backs, long arm, wash and deliver quilts on our behalf every month. Browse the community service section to read about some recipients.
Looking forward, Kaye Dunn and the nominating committee have filled most of the open board slots for next year. That leaves countless other roles to fill. Please step up if Kaye’s team calls upon you. And, don’t hesitate to volunteer to shadow any position, Board or other, to learn the ropes.

BEGINNER QUILTER MENTORING
If you are new to quilting and would like to spend some time learning the basics, please join Linda Chappell and Donna Petrick in a new venture to mentor beginning quilters. You will get acquainted with terms and gain the confidence to join in with other groups or the guild workshops. We have a form we are asking you to complete to see the times everyone will be available and what you are interested in learning.

To honor the Semiquincentennial celebration of the United States, the Quilters Guild of Plano will feature a special judged category for the Quilt Plano 2026 show, sponsored by the James Billingsley Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

GUILD ACTIVITIES – Donna Allenbaugh & Sally Pitre
Get ready for a lively and laughter-filled June meeting with our Fat Quarter Bingo Party! This is a great way to connect, share fabric, and maybe even head home with a fun bundle of goodies.
- Bring floral fat quarters to participate.
- You’ll receive one Bingo card for each fat quarter you turn in.
- Don’t forget to bring buttons to use as your Bingo cover pieces — a fun and colorful twist!
Throughout the game, lucky winners will take home bundles of fat quarters, with the number of prizes based on participation. Multiple winners during a rounds.
Celebrate the season with our Summer Fun Group Challenge — a perfect way to showcase your creativity and brighten up your sewing table.
- Create a 12" x 12" quilt block inspired by the theme “Summer Fun.”
- Use a white or blue background (think sky or water).
- Designs can feature anything that captures summer — beaches, treats, sunshine, or outdoor fun. Plan to combine blocks into a table runner of four blocks.
If you are interested in joining the fun with the 2027 Quilt Retreat committee, please contact Jeanne Vogel. We have begun planning — location, length, community service project.

EDUCATION – Debbie Burns and Deanna Tucker
At the May meeting, Deanna Tucker demonstrated how to make a quilt sleeve for hanging your quilt. If you are entering a quilt at the show, this is required. For a tutorial, check out Quilting Tips & Tuts #9 – Quilt Sleeve on the Quilters Guild of Plano website.
At the June 11 guild meeting, Dolores Williams will show us some tips and tricks to have Precision Piecing. Stop by and learn something new!

PROGRAMS AND WORKSHOPS – Kim Iverson and Andrea McMahan
May was an exciting month as our Quilt Show Kickoff officially launched preparations for this year’s show. The event was a huge success, and we were happy to support the Quilt Show Committee as they continue their work planning what promises to be a wonderful show.
We are also looking for volunteers to help staff the Programs table during the quilt show. If you are interested in helping, we would greatly appreciate your support.
Our June speaker is Allie McCathren. She’ll be presenting on raw edge applique and sharing how she merges her love of art with her degree in marine biology to bring nature into her work. She used fabric as if it were paint, working with color and texture to create her art quilts.
The June workshop is officially sold out! If you would like to be added to the wait list, please contact programs@qgplano.org.
Reminder: if you have attended a guild workshop and have completed any part of your project — finished or still in progress — please bring it to the meeting for Show and Tell so we can all enjoy seeing what everyone has created so far.

COMMUNITY SERVICE – Jeanne Vogel and Susie Luttrell
With May being National Foster Care Month, we were honored to welcome the Director of Development from Transition Resource Action Center (TRAC) to our meeting to receive — and personally thank our members for — the donation of 50 baby quilts and 20 cuddles for babies of girls in foster care across 19 counties in North Texas. We also donated 15 large quilts for the new mothers, graduates of the program, etc.
TRAC currently serves 11 families with 21 children, ages 0–4, with four more babies on the way. Thanks to the generosity and hard work of our members, we completely filled their car with quilts and cuddles to help support these young families.
A special thank-you as well to everyone who helped empty the bins we brought to the meeting. We can usually refill them quickly with items turned in during the meeting! We still have many bins of quilts waiting to be long-armed, to be bound, along with cuddle kits and pillowcase kits ready to be made, so please stop by our table at upcoming meetings to see how you can help.
We’re excited to share that our board has approved a special quilt donation for the families residing at Agape Resource & Assistance Center in east Plano.
Agape is currently serving 8 adult women and 13 children, ages 2–11, who are experiencing situational homelessness, abuse, and poverty. The response to this donation was heartfelt and overwhelming — staff shared that they have never received such a meaningful gift to bring color, warmth, and comfort into the lives of these single women, mothers, and their children. We are honored to help provide comfort and encouragement to families working toward stability and a brighter future.
Thank you to this great donation quilt that was made with 2½ in HQT.
