Letter from the President – Carolyn Cosgriff
Congratulations on a great show! Thanks to all who displayed quilts, donated mini-quilts, volunteered, did advance work, and spread the word! I hope everyone rested up because we have….. The rumor is true! The Show is Moving! Not location, dates. We’ve decided to take a leap and move the show from August to March 12 & 13. The Board is counting on the membership. We have no allusions about the huge effort this will demand. Why? There was an opportunity opened by the Dallas Show moves, plus the 2027 Expo is scheduled for the first week in August. The Expo is impacting vendors with large ticket items. We need our partner vendors for long-term success. While we would have liked other dates, the Event Center was booked for proms, conventions, and weddings; leaving us no more attractive options. Please read the entire newsletter. The Show date change impacts many aspects of the guild. The Retreat date is changing. The community service Baggage Claim challenge is open. The September Education demo is how to navigate the new website. The New Member Retreat—Welcome to the 26 new members who joined at the Show. Please come to the New Member Retreat. Check your email for the link to register. Welcome back to the 9 returning members and the 83 renewing members! It’s exciting to be a month away from starting the new year with 120 paid members! We desperately need two plus people to learn how to run the meeting AV equipment. Our current duo is moving on. Stacey Procter’s husband is stepping in to help in September. It requires a 15 minute training session and remembering to charge the equipment between meetings.

Committees:
Many of these roles have multiple positions, especially in community service, and some roles are filled. This is a brief overview to give you an idea of the responsibilities of each position. You can negotiate the responsibilities with the appropriate VP.
Membership Bee Keeper: Coordinates forming new groups. Matches groups with those looking to affiliate with a group. Hospitality/Welcome: Welcomes attendees to the meeting. Helps guests and new members navigate the meeting. Helps with any new member events. Door Prizes: Gather door prizes from local quilt shops, as needed. E-Mail list: Keep email list current for newsletter and special announcement.
Activities Annual Retreat. Help organize and host the annual multi-day retreat Challenges. Create, communicate, and coordinate the final outcome (prizes, drawing, etc) of guild challenges. We aim to offer 3-4 challenges a year.
Community Service Delivery. Deliver completed quilts to the approved charitable organizations. Community Sew Day. Prep kits and host community sew days. Top to Finish. Prep for the long armer. Cut batting, match/construct backing and binding.
Education
Media Meeting Manager. Run the AV equipment for the in-person and Zoom meeting participants. Web Site Content. Police the web site and make updates on a timely basis. Historian/Photographer. Photograph guild meetings and the Show. Share content.
Programs Workshop assistant. Transport speaker to and from the workshop. Facilitate set-up/take down and lunch. Check in attendees. Speaker liaison. Assist transporting speakers, ensuring they have all needed to present at meetings/workshops, taking to dinner, if needed.

AUGUST MEMBERSHIP RECAP
96 members attended the August meeting in person at preview night.
Please check your profile. Many people’s information, including picture, didn’t transfer. There is no apparent logic of what did or didn’t transfer—it’s not personal. It is time to renew memberships. Once you have logged into the website, look at My Account, then under Orders if you want to determine if you have already renewed. You’ll find an order indicating the date you renewed with the current membership year.

| Beekeeper News Donna Petrick
Hi all~ I’ve volunteered to be the Beekeeper this next year. I’m hoping you will join me in creating some new small sewing groups. Small groups are a great way to get to meet more people in the guild. Also a great way to learn tips and techniques for each other. A couple of people have already offered to help lead a group or two to get started. In what kind of small sewing group are you interested? People living closer to you? People with the same sewing interest? A chance to get out of the house for a couple of hours? Or a chance to stay at home and help each other over Zoom? I have several ideas but would like to hear from you to see about your interest and expectations. Would the men like an all guy group? Are all of the small group members a member of the guild? Would you like to do a certain technique for six weeks; then change to another group doing a different technique? I have lots of ideas, just need to rein them into what you want to do. We will answer a lot of these questions in the near future. There will be a questionnaire on the website under the membership column soon. Please complete the several pages involved in this inquiry so I can get an idea of what is wanted and can start setting up some meeting dates. Plan on joining in on the fun.

Quilt Plano Show 2026 — Carol Truscott
Congratulations and thank you to everyone who volunteered at the show!
People loved the quilts. The America 250 exhibit was emotional. Financially, it was one of our best shows ever! We will share results when all the expenses are collected.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support our August Quilt Show! Your enthusiasm and participation helped make it a wonderful event, and we hope you enjoyed seeing all the beautiful quilts and connecting with fellow quilters.
We launched our programs and workshops for 2027 at the show. They will be on the website soon. In the meantime, come see me at the September meeting to preview the upcoming events and start registering for the workshops now. We only had 2 workshops not sold out in 2026 so don’t risk missing out in 2027!
Looking ahead, our September meeting will feature the Texas Quilt Museum presenting Turning of the Quilts, a special trunk show you won’t want to miss!
In October, we’ll have our final workshop of the year with Diane Harris. The Friday workshop had a few cancellations, so if you tried to register and it was full, you may want to try again! There is still room in the Saturday workshop as well. If you’ve been thinking about joining us, now is the time to sign up!
We’re also planning a special in-house event in November and would love to showcase the many ways our members have participated throughout the year. If you attended a workshop, took part in a community service project, participated in a guild activity, or enjoyed an educational opportunity and would like to share your experience with fellow members, please reach out to me. We’d love to hear what you’ve been doing and celebrate your involvement!

Agape is in east Plano—moms and their children facing situational homelessness— One resident expressed immense gratitude and dismay that someone took such care to create the quilt and then donated to a stranger. Your gift made her feel so special as she moved into her new home. Please share with your group how much we appreciate your amazing gifts of time, talent, and treasure. We recognize that these quilts are really works of art made with loving hands and hearts. Thanks from: 
Bella House has 7 moms and 3 babies (one set of twins) in their homes. They have 5 more babies coming in October/November. They also have 5-7 moms participating in their weekly parenting circle at their Outreach Center in Farmers Branch. We donated 15 cuddles and 15 baby quilts and a quilt for each of the mothers. 
Children’s Hospital Plano received 20 cuddles, 20 baby & youth quilts.

We are so close to finishing, but we have 10 bins full of quilts needing to have binding sewn on. We will bring as many as we can to the Sew Day on Sept 8 and will bring them to the guild meeting on Sept 10th. We have many members that love to bind, but we need help getting a few more to cross the finish line.
Our thanks and appreciation go to all those that have helped cut, piece, bind, quilt and deliver quilts this past year. We have gotten to know so many; know their talent to enrich the lives of those needing the comfort of a quilt to know they are loved and cared for when they are down due to illness, domestic abuse, homelessness and the aged.
