Letter from the President – Carolyn Cosgriff
Happy New Year! Wrapping up the Guild’s 2025-26 year and launching the 2026-27 year brings into focus the incredible level of member participation. We are extremely grateful to be able to feature nationally recognized speakers. The level of community service is astonishing, both in terms of quality and quantity. That only happens with the organized effort of many people. Add to that a fabulous quilt show, some fun games and challenges, a little personal growth and improving skill sessions and it’s been a good year. Our growing membership is evidence of these accomplishments.
In the category of improving, but still not quite good enough…the website and meeting technology. We hadn’t anticipated the need to upgrade the website at the beginning of the year. Stacey Procter has embraced the challenge, and the website is now quicker and easier to use, especially on mobile devices. (The membership info didn’t transfer as seamlessly as hoped—please check your member profile.) The guild purchased a camera and microphone, and neither met our expectations. Both the in-person and Zoom experience need to be better, and we are looking for solutions. The 2026-27 budget will reflect the need for assistance in these areas.
2026-2027 Budget
Anyone with AV expertise, we’d love to have your input and help running the AV aspect of meetings! Also, the Co-VP of Programs remains open and this role helps coordinate the speakers and workshops. Now is the time to establish the speakers for 2028.
Focusing on the new year… Programs contracted a diversified line-up of speakers plus workshops. Activities has fun planned, plus the Retreat in August. Education is going to open our eyes to new methods and ideas. Membership has lots of door prizes. And, we’ll have Show in March.
Have fun quilting! Don’t forget to renew your membership!

QGP Service Pins
Donna Petrick
Ever wonder what all the pins are that we have at the guild? The guild works to honor it’s members by awarding pins for different activities. Let’s start with the main guild pin. It was designed by a member (Joan Wilson) to coincide with the Guild’s 25th anniversary. This is our second guild design. The cost of this pin is always $5.00. It’s purpose is to identify you as a guild member.
Show pins change each year along with the main design for that quilt show. The current year pin price is always $5.00. As the design ages one year, the price drops to $1.00 We have a large selection of prior years pins that can be purchased for $1.00 each. Their purpose is to advertise the upcoming quilt show and be a reminder of all you did to make it successful.
We also have a year bar pin that hangs from the black sewing machine pin. That black machine pin is also $5.00 However, the year bars are awarded to a member who has done at least 30 hours of work for the guild in a calendar year at no charge. This work can be anything you do, not just community service, but does include community service. We are currently working on a replacement form for submitting your hours to the guild. When you have completed 30 hours you may tell Julie Schaefer at a guild meeting to receive your bar. Julie sits next to the membership check-in desk.
The guild also gives out a charm to add to your year bar for working 4 hours for the quilt show. This can be anything that has to do with the quilt show; such as making a mini, taking the raffle quilt to other guilds, delivering tickets and bookmarks to different quilt stores or volunteering at the actual show. This is the reason you should sign in at the show so we know you were there and not just assigned to a time and didn’t show up.
The president can also award a Lone Star pin to any member(s) for exceptional service to the guild. These awards may be suggested to the president if you are aware of exceptional service and would like to see someone rewarded. It’s hard for the president to know all that is taking place and it is helpful to get suggestions with reasons from the membership.
Lastly, in the past the federal government awarded pins for volunteering to general public organizations. These were known as Public Volunteer Service Awards. Unfortunately, the government has discontinued this award. It was very popular for a good while and we have had a number of members awarded the lifetime award for over 4000 hrs of service to the organization. We have designed our own pins and are in the process of gathering hours for 2025 and 2026 so that these new pins can be awarded.
Join in the fun of growing the guild, earn your volunteer pins and wear them with pride.

Beekeeper News
Donna Petrick
Forming new sewing bees sort of got sidetracked this month. I may have over committed myself since I took on being show chair. However, we will start some new bees (small sewing groups) soon.
My first news flash is that we will have two types of bees. We will have ambassador groups and guild sewing groups.
The ambassador groups will consist of some guild members but be open to anyone who wants to join in and sew with the group. Everyone in the group does not have to be a member of the Quilters Guild of Plano. There will be a lead person that I can contact. This will include both featherweight sewing groups and any other group that identifies with QGP. These will also be listed on our website.
The regular sewing bees of the guild will consist of only members of the guild, as we have been doing for years. This is where I would also like to try some different approaches to the bees. Hopefully this will appeal to a lot of you. Let’s form a group that is interested in learning several different techniques. When we are comfortable with those, this group will dissolve and move to a different type of sewing bee or stay together to learn more techniques.
And with so many of us taking an applique class recently, I’m thinking we may want to start up an applique small group. We need to keep encouraging each other as we are learning this set of skills.
What would you like in a sewing bee? Size, talent, locality—let me know your ideas. A form will be posted soon to let you fill in this information. So be thinking about what you want to join.

Quilt Plano 2027
March 12 & 13, 2027
Quilt entry deadline is January 29, 2027.

Vendor booth are almost all sold. Already!
Quilt turn-in will be Tuesday, March 9, 2027.
Quit Plano 2027 Update
Donna Petrick
Let’s see – didn’t we just finish a quilt show? And a very successful quilt show I might add. But wait –what’s ahead. Another quilt show! And this one is March 12th and 13th, 2027. But if anyone can do a short turn around for another quilt show, it’s the Quilters Guild of Plano. We put on an awesome show. We have a lot of reasons to pat ourselves on the back. Just don’t break an arm. We need those arms to get ready for March.
If you are interested in working on the committee, please contact me. I’ll do my best to find a place for you. It’s a good idea for a couple of people to fill a position so someone is always ready to step in if the other person has a hiccup with time. Plus, maybe you want to learn a new skill in working with the show. There is always something new to learn or a better way to do what we do.
Vendor and Sponsor request forms, and entry forms are already on the website. We will be updating material as we have it. So keep watching to see what is changing. And you know that Kaye and Valerie will be on all of us to get those mini quilts completed. We had a fantastic response to mini quilts at the last show and made the most money we have ever made.
Roll out for the show will be included in our December meeting. Another reason celebrate with the group.
Our timeline is short. We have a lot to get done. Encourage everyone you know to get those quilts finished and entered into the show. Then be ready to volunteer to make this show the best yet.

Thank You for a Wonderful September Meeting—and Looking Ahead!
A huge thank you to everyone who came out for our September meeting! We were treated to a fascinating presentation from the Texas Quilt Museum with a special trunk show of historical quilts that had never been shown before followed by a history of the museum and all the interactive activities they offer to tourists and locals alike. It was a true privilege to see these treasures up close, and the room was buzzing with appreciation for the craftsmanship and stories behind each piece. What a memorable evening!
Now let’s turn our attention to October—it’s going to be a fantastic month of scrappy inspiration and hands-on creativity. Diane Harris of Scrap Bandit Quilting Shenanigans will join us on Thursday for a lively scrappy trunk show. On Friday she’ll present her StarQuar workshop, and on Saturday it’s Fowl Play, where she’ll share a fun technique for creating three-dimensional flying geese. Whether you’re a scrap lover, a star enthusiast, or just looking for a playful new skill, there’s something for everyone. Don’t miss these workshops—there is room in both workshops but space fills quickly!
Looking a bit further ahead, November’s meeting will be a fun recap of everything the Programs, Community Service, Activities, and Education committees have brought us over the past year. It’s a chance to celebrate the year’s highlights together. And of course, December is our much-anticipated holiday party—always a highlight of the guild calendar!
If you’ve been thinking about getting more involved, now is the perfect time. We’d love to welcome new members to the Programs Committee. It’s a wonderful way to get to know fellow quilters, share ideas, and help shape the programs and workshops we’ll enjoy in 2028 (yes, 2028—2027 is already planned!). There’s no better moment to join the team and help create the experiences that make our guild so special.
See you in October—bring your curiosity, your scraps, and your enthusiasm!

Community Service – Jeanne Vogel and Susie Luttrell

Community Service — Sharing the Love
The thank-you notes keep coming in and we must share some of the kind words we’ve received:
“The residents enjoy them so much; they brought back lots of memories for them. They talked about how their grandma would sew quilts by hand and give them as wedding presents. It made them feel very special. Thank you so much to all.”
“Thank you for your kindness and thoughtfulness. She will enjoy her new treasures.”
“There are no adequate words to thank you for the beautiful quilts you donated. A lot of the children we serve have never had a bed, much less a beautiful quilt to keep them warm. God bless you.”
A Special Delivery from TRAC

We have some wonderful news from the TRAC program! New mother Brittany welcomed her triplets a little earlier than expected, and our Guild was there to help welcome those three precious babies. Brittany’s family received bibs, burp cloths, cuddles, receiving blankets, and baby quilts, all lovingly made and donated by our members.
Three new little lives, wrapped in love —
this is what Community Service is all about. ❤️
Donation this month to TRAC–20 cuddles, 10 baby, 10 adult, 4 bibs, 16 receiving blankets, 5 burp cloths
To Children’s Hospital —20 cuddles, 15 baby quilts, 15 youth quilts.
And donate we did! Our totals for the 2025–2026 year are something to celebrate! 20 stockings, 320 cuddles, 690 pillowcases, and 815 throws and quilts—including 138 baby quilts!
And finally, a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been part of our Community Service family. Susie and I have been blessed to see how generously you respond whenever we put out a call for help. So many hands have helped carry the load, making Community Service such a special part of the Quilters Guild of Plano.
Thank you for every stitch, every donation, and every helping hand!
The collection of baby items to give to the students becoming parents while in school at PISD will be done at the October and November meetings.
